Helping Make Homes Safer Since 2004
![]()
As our population is aging fast, many people choose to stay in the home longer than in the past. For example, according to an AARP housing survey, 83% of older Americans want to stay in their current homes for the rest of their lives and nearly 70% of seniors spend the rest of their life in the place where they celebrated their 65th birthday. However, what was once an easy and convenient place to live in may end up becoming an unsafe and challenging environment over time. For baby-boomers or other senior citizens, how one may “gracefully” age should be a prime consideration. It can be a dilemma trying to determine the areas in a home that should be made safer for seniors and physically challenged individuals. Harder yet is figuring out which items will work and then properly installing them. For example, falls are the leading reason for a senior requiring hospitalization. And falls can happen anywhere in your home.
Obviously, some homes have accessibility built in to the home, and in many cases, these items can be tastefully done so they don’t make the home look like an institution. However, the vast majority of homes may present challenges as one ages. In this case, it is highly recommended that a Certified Aging In Place Specialist (CAPS) Graduate be brought in to assess what changes may need to be made to the home. CAPS is a program that was established in partnership between the AARP and the National Association of Home Builders to help seniors know that they are working with someone with the experience, skills and equipment expertise to help make homes safer. In Colorado, there are only about 50 of these CAPS Graduates. As a result, there are many other safety and accessibility items that can be installed in homes as a result of working with a Certified Aging In Place Specialist Graduate’s extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with senior citizen safety and convenience.
Safe Home Modifications has been helping over 1,000 Colorado families make their homes safer for over 7 years. Our CAPS expert can help identify and prioritize the safety hazards present in your home, or they can also work with your Occupational & Physical Therapists to help determine what you need installed.
Home Safety Surveys
Our Home Safety Surveys help identify and prioritize your safety issues. It takes about an hour to compile our observations and recommendations. You’ll receive practical tips and suggestions to minimize home hazards.
Some of the recommendations from the Home Safety Survey will be product or service related, from sturdy tub and shower grab bars, grab poles and ceiling-mounted trapezes near beds and chairs, to second stair railings, stairlifts, code-compliant wheelchair ramps. We can help with hand-held showers wands, bath benches, bath mats, walker steps, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, commode rails, emergency alert systems and many other safety enhancements.
Please contact us to arrange a complimentary Home Safety Survey if your project is within 50 miles of Louisville, Colorado. We’d love to learn about your project, and welcome the opportunity to earn your business.
